About the event

Our last Writer’s Hangout of the year is focused on finding your voice as a writer.


“Voice” gets mentioned constantly in conversations around writing, but it can often feel difficult to define. This session is about exploring what voice actually means, where it comes from, and how writers slowly develop their own way of seeing and expressing things on the page.


We’ll be talking about influences, tone, perspective, style, personal experience, and the kinds of stories or characters writers naturally keep returning to. Rather than trying to sound like somebody else, this session is about recognising the things that already feel instinctive and specific to you.


Bring unfinished drafts, scenes, notebooks, ideas, or pieces of writing that feel personal, unfamiliar, or different from your usual approach. You’re also welcome to come along simply to write quietly, listen to the discussion, and spend time around other creatives.
