For our final Lynch session, we take what his films have taught us and use it to shape a new scene without copying their familiar surface.

About the event
David Lynch’s influence is easy to recognise, but there is more to it than red curtains, cryptic dialogue and strange objects. This final session looks beyond those familiar details and asks what his filmmaking choices can offer somebody developing work of their own.
Sammy Holden will revisit selected scenes from the month to consider how Lynch delays information, uses off-screen sound, unsettles identity and allows an ordinary place to take on a different meaning.
Working in small groups, we will choose one of these approaches and apply it to a new story rooted in our own experiences, interests or surroundings. You can develop the idea as six storyboard frames, one page of script or a short scene treatment.
The aim is not to produce the best imitation of a David Lynch film. We want to understand one of his choices clearly enough to take it somewhere new. We will finish…
