David Lynch: Dreams & Subconscious Logic

David Lynch’s films often follow the logic of a dream: strange on the surface, but held together by a recognisable fear or desire.

For the opening session, Sammy Holden will use selected extracts from Mulholland Dr. to look at how Lynch turns anticipation into dread, and why knowing what is coming can make a scene more frightening.

We will then work in small groups to build a short dream sequence set somewhere ordinary, using six simple beats and a sound plan. No filmmaking experience or detailed knowledge of Lynch is needed.
