About the event

About the workshop

Olivia Colman’s character orders a woven husband in Wicker, but, we’re starting a little smaller.

Join artist and basketmaker Marie Louise Williams for an afternoon learning to work with willow. You’ll make a small hanging basket and a willow heart, with demonstrations to follow and individual help as you go. No previous weaving experience is needed.

Marie will introduce the willow and how it is prepared, show you how to use the tools safely, and take you through the basket from its first weave to its border and handles. After a tea break, you’ll move on to your heart, with a willow fish to try if time allows. If you don’t finish a fish, Marie will give you one she’s made to take home.

There’s time at the end for care advice and questions about trying more weaving at home.
