About the event
Whitechapel, 1888. An all-female ghost-hunting society is convinced the Ripper murders are the work of something inhuman. An inventor joins their investigation with an experimental camera.
Directed by Joseph Archer and written by Cathy Wippell, Snapshot takes found-footage horror into Victorian London. Joseph's debut feature had its world premiere in competition at the 2026 Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The film recreates the look of Victorian pinhole photography, with Tamworth's strange invention recording a city gripped by rumours and sensational newspaper reports. What his camera captures is only part of the story. What slips out of view, and whether we can trust the man filming it, are another matter.
Joseph joins us in person after the screening to talk about making his first feature and creating a period ghost story through the lens of found footage. There will be time for your questions too.
